Thought for the day...... Do you feel unhappy and that life is unfair? The world isn't fair and that's the truth, so why are we surprised when unfairness touches us and why do we expect life to be fair?
Once upon a time, people didn't give that too much thought, they just got on with their lot.
Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.
This is from the poem by Tennyson 1854, Charge of The Light Brigade, and is a reflection of the way people were. Theirs in this sentence means their duty - people didn't think well I wont charge because it will mean death, they went about their duty to the death.
We on the whole wouldn't think like this anymore and perhaps that is because we have a greater sense of self before the duty to the whole. But along with that thinking comes our belief in 'our rights', but what rights? We expect our notion of fair to be honoured, but what is fair?
I believe we are so independent in our outlook, seeking ways to get our own way, that we have become lost in the search for fairness. Fairness may not be what we really want anyway, our own way might be, but is that fair?
The mind only knows from the ideas and beliefs it has gathered along the way, but may not be a balanced view of the world in all fairness.
From deep within us, we each have the capacity to know the best course of action, that which speaks through our heart, but most of the time we choose to listen to the voice of our mind. Logic and reason have us asking why, what for, judging it to be worthy of us or of value in some way, which is not always for the best.
The voice of the heart bears no ill will and would not step on or over another to achieve a goal and yet so many are willing to be like that these days don't you find?
The mind pays little attention to such heart felt voice, it only knows what it wants and rarely deviates from need. The mind leads us along a constant stream of thought and a constant stream of pressure.
There's the strength of the mind though, a blessing that drives us to succeed in the world but it is mostly our weakness that has us seeking, (rather than on thanking and blessing our days).
The drive, to take, to deliver, to use and manipulate can hurt others that stand in our way, are thoughts by which we find injustice and inequality. The feelings of lack and vulnerability are offered to us on a plate via all forms of media and society in general, and don't we lap it up?
Actually we expect unfairness and watch out for it, and this only makes us feel worse for our sense of lack as portrayed in the media, over and over again.
Do you believe you can make your way in this world from a heart centred space and feel worthy and full of satisfaction with your lot? I believe we all can, but what might that mean?
To take a heart centred approach to life doesn't mean to let opportunity go or to stop questioning what's going on around you or to stop asking why. Rather, this approach may bring the urge to go faster back a notch, to breath before a response is made and to forgive even if you cannot forget; you may see a broader outlook and gather a sense of gratitude along with it.
Have you ever been outraged by an incident only to find out later there were reasons to what seemed so unfair that you couldn't have known about? A heart centred approach to life would be a slower pace, a mindful pace and a knowing that all that we need is right here, even when it seems so unfair at the time.
To want your own way 'all the time' is to forget the adult you have become. To be guided by the heart and have the mind help you carry your intentions through is the grown up path to harmony.
To insist on your own way or on your rights, is to forget the community and for the community to forget you.
To blame is to render another guilty.
To honour your heart and to believe in your self despite what the world screams at you, is to follow the heart's way, and it hurts no one (and will lead you around those who seek to hurt).
The world is not always fair, but we can work with it by aligning all that happens with the strength of our heart. Heart and mind working together makes our lives so much easier, especially when we work in harmony with others. We will find an inner strength, resilience and duty to self and others through the power of love.
Love and harmony within transforms lives and we become examples to the children who watch and learn (developing heart and mind responses).
Our today is their inner voice of tomorrow, and may it be a loving voice and way of life for them.
Expect a loving way to be yours, find the time to respond to life's ills appropriately. So many throw salt on wounds these days without a care in the world, and the ripples from that one throw carry for miles and miles.
Life may not be fair, well it just isn't for the majority of us on the planet, but we all have the capacity to make our inner lives loving lives, so start spreading those beautiful seeds far and wide.
You may not get a full bed of roses, a few weeds will grow too, but you will enjoy the spectacle and the perfume of your heart felt endeavours.
You are here, the sun shines and the clouds burst, learn to live with that, and balance will be yours! Just for now, let go of the need for all things to be fair.
