Ah, My Blessings

Oprah Winfrey

Hello Dear Friends

Each day there is something to praise and celebrate in my life, and believe me my days are not all praiseworthy at first glance.

It has taken time and effort to see the most extraordinary things that had slipped by unnoticed, until I reflect a little.

Life’s like that though isn’t it? We get bogged down in the day-to-day grind and we do lead busy lives and … I’ll stop right there because, that is the story we tell ourselves and it is reinforced relentlessly by world media (movies, television, advertising).

But how true is it? There’s an old saying, a person who can do 1000 things can do 1001!

I believe that is true and that one extra thing, can be the thing, that will make our lives feel fuller, more wonderful and worthy of celebration.

One little thing to take an ordinary life, to a wonderful life, is to sit and calmly search your mind for one thing worthy of praise that happened today.

You may miss it at first, it may seem too insignificant to mention, but once you start trying, you will remember more and more things and wont ever stop at one.

My day started with –

Sadness, and I called out to the universe and all there is to help me….
Help came – a kind hearted friend called in

I made a complaint about my landline not working… It fell on deaf ears…
The ombudsman returned my call and is advocating on my behalf

I bought bread at the shop
The young woman served me with such a beautiful smile on her face and engaged me in meaningful conversation

No inspiration for dinner
Google, dinner for one!

Without reflection, my day would be unpraiseworthy; I would remember sadness, frustration and lack of self regard.

With reflection, I get to count the blessings of love, support, companionship and inspiration
Tonight, I will go to bed on a sleepy high.

I do know, that not all days can end on such a note, but the point is to try; change begins with action, not thought. A moment to sit is taking action and brings with it, more than a moment’s worth of peace.

Through the act of contemplation, I know my life is blessed and praiseworthy, and there is so much to celebrate, and I notice that I am blessed by the kindness of others.

Thank you for reading, I really appreciate it

I leave you with a picture of a statue called Contemplation, taken at St Mary of The Angels in Rome: I loved it, she was one of my favourites.

Much love
